Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has sent his/her iPod to AppleCare for repair. Mine (original 5 Gb) unfortunately only played about two hours of music on a full charge so I sent it in but it's been over two weeks now.

What is the general timeline for this? Should I wait longer? Any advice would be cool. Thanks.

Cheers.
Have a nice day!

My 20GB iPod hard drive conked out after one week, and it took them just over a month to get it back to me! The shipping label on it was from Taiwan, so I assume they sent it there for repair!
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

If you poke around www.apple.com/support I believe there's a Repair Status page there somewhere. Or, I'm sure there's a number you could call to check on your iPod.

so here's my question.

it's a known problem that older ipods batteries die. clearly. old anythings batteries die.

is anyone selling replacement batteries? i don't want to deal with apple, i just want to buy a new battery somewhere, pop it in, and be perfectly content...

any leads? if not, why not? seems like a clear market, since apple's completely ignoring the fact that batteries DO grow old and die... do they think we'll all just throw down for a new ipod right away? come on...

help?
thoughts?
stupid links i've missed?

thanks.

i think they do give you a chance to get a replacement. When I sent my original 5 gb ipod to apple, they did send me a new replacement ipod. Just make sure you have to do it while you are still in warranty.

To answer your question, no, you cannot buy a battery from any others yet. And it is very difficult to open the ipod case. If you still have warranty, it is better to send it back to apple, instead of cracking the case open.

isn't the warranty only 90 days? in that case, anyone with a first revision ipod is clearly out of luck...

...and yes, i know some people got a wicked warranty through comp usa, but i'm not in that group (d'oh!) and so i'm pretty sure i'm out of luck...

now, i do want to mention that my ipod works fine and i love it, but battery life has definitely decreased from those early months of absurd all day jam sessions...

there is a market. someone see this.

thanks for your help tho.

you obviously did not read through other forums. Apple has extended the warranty to one year for all of ipods, even the first generation from last november. However, they are soon to be expire. So if you have one from last november, you better hurry....

I don't know what's your current battery life is. If you are playing a playlist with songs that encoded in 160kbs and you cannot get 6 hours on continuous playback, then you will get a replacement. At least that was in my case

So I called AppleCare and the agent I spoke with did not know why my iPod repair is delayed, something to do with a new status code, and said she would get back to me via email within 24 hours. We shall see.

My iPod is under warranty. No question about that. I guess patience is key here.

Cheers.

dope.

thanks for the info, that's exactly the kind of thing i was wondering. i didn't hear that, and i (being in tokyo) can't really talk to apple too easily (i can, but there's a bit of a problem... my friend tried and had a mess of a time with it) so i was being extra hesitant about thinking of applecare as a solution.

i love my ipod, but the battery life is down to about 5-6 hours and sometimes it loses a charge with no warning.

thanks again,
poocat.

Hi All.

Well, I shipped my org. iPod to Apple last thursday, and got i back TODAY (Copenhagen-> Amsterdam -> Copenhagen).

It's from last december (10 months old) and they gave me a new one.
My complaint was the battery. (15-20min working time on a full charge)

So, under a week to get it back in europe a.t.m.

Call AppleCare, and ASK! It helps....
Marook
At least - it's a reply...

i sent my 10gig ipod in to, i still don"t have it and im waiting for OVER A MONTH now. I called apple support 2 times, they said they were waiting for new ipods .. now i called the company were they sent it to, different than apple..and they told me they are aware of the situation, they said there has been a technical fault in the production and that's why it's taking so long..they hope to get new ones this week.. at least they are going to replace it.
