Does anyone have personal experience using the new Canon LiDE 20 and 30? I'm interested in an OS X compatible scanner I can use with Image Capture without having to use Photoshop 7.

Do Canon's scanners have better or worse OS X support than Epson or HP? I've been interested in the Canon LiDE series and Epson 1250/1650s.

Any suggestions or guidance to previous threads would be most welcome! Thanks.

I have just purchased a LiDE 30.

In X it is very good, but so far I have only found the photoshop plugin to scan with. The buttons on the front do not work at all - but that does not bother me at all.

I have not tried it in OS 9.

It is very quiet and does good quality scans.

I have a LiDE 30 and it's great, but like littlegreenspud said it only works with photoshop (twain driver)right now, hopefully they'll release something that will work with image capture soon. i don't mind that the buttons don't work, and for now i don't mind the whole photoshop thing. but it's a good scanner, and it's quite trim too :-)

The native Toolbox application is out, it works great. Check on versiontracker and search for canon. Install the Toolbox then the New driver. No need to use photoshop anymore and the front buttons are enabled.

Great scanner.

Great scanner.
I must concur. This is a great scanner. I bought a LiDE 20 yesterday from CompUSA. I also downloaed the drivers and Canon Toolbox from Canon's website yesterday. I had an old Microtk which started to get fugly scans. It was an old SCSI scanner which I had to have attached to my dirt-old 7100/80. I got sick of scanning things in on that thing, so I opted to go for a new one.

The LiDE is a little more loud than I'd like and it also takes it a while to reset the scanner after completeing a scan. The things I like about it are that it is bus powered, i.e., no power cords. The front buttons rock. Just plopping a document in it and hitting the button is so kewl. Its also very small. I'm not sure you could make a good scanner any smaller. Also, the scans look very good. Almost as good as the original. I'd have to say the thing I like the most is the 'multiscan' feature. You can drop in a few pictures and it'll auto crop and rotate them and create multiple documents from them. So, I was basicaly able to scan 2 4x6 photos in at a time. A real time saver.

I just got a LIDE30 and I like it. I used it in OSX with Graphic Converter (no Photoshop needed!) and I don't need to go to OS9 for anything.

Canon recently updated the drivers on their website compared to what comes with the scanner on cd. I haven't tried them yet though.

Nice small scanner. Seems to be fast.

Hi!

Thanks for all of your replies. After reading all of the forum info regarding the LIDEs, I check out the LIDE 30 at the new Apple Store at the King of Prussia. I like how slim it is, the buttons on the front, and it's dual-purpose USB connection (I've already got enough USB and power cables at home).

Is there any way to program the buttons on the front so that when one is pressed, the scanner sends the scanned image to my Epson 740? I'd like that kind of "photocopy" ability if possible. Those multifunction Epsons are so tempting...

Yes you can, actually there is a button called <<COPY>>...
You press the button, it scans and opens the printing pane for ya.
You just need to press Print.
