Just came back from lunch to find a Palm Vx on my desk with a note that says "yours if you want it". There is no cradle or anything. I checked out the Palm website and found that they cost $50. And that is a serial connection which means no go on my iMac 17. Is there another way of connecting this thing? And is the cost for that worth using this PDA? I am not super into the whole PDA thing, but there are a few ways in which this would be useful, mostly having something to jot down dates and times for meetings and such. Also, exactly how many generations old is this model? Is it ancient?

Thanks a lot!

Check around www.palm.com or www.palmgear.com or a similar site. You should be able to find Palm's USB adaptor kit somewhere. (Any 3rd-party serial/USB adaptor would probably work, though). You could probably get away for $30.
The Vx is a bit old, but it's OS can be updated to v4.x (I don't think it'll be compatible with the new v5 that was released with today's Tungsten models). The Vx is still a pretty solid Palm, though it doesn't have a color screen, etc like many newer models.
But, for free, the price is right!
Oh, and you ight be able to find some more info and such at www.palminfocenter.com

SupahCoolX was right, you need an adapter. I bet you can get one for $15 - 20 on eBay. Palm makes their own but there are numerous third party manufacturers as well.

The Vx is a stable, smart, compact machine. It's monochrome but hey, it's free, right? Regardless, it can help boost your productivity in many ways...enjoy.

The Keyspan PDA adaptor is a good one to look into - its price tends to be better than the Palm adaptor. Under OS 9 and with early driver versions, it was flaky, but nowadays it is very solid and reliable. I use mine all the time.
