I have an Apple 17" studio display. It's one of the older ones and it keeps crackling a lot when I turn it off and when it's on it looks like it's turning itself off and on sporatically. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it at all. I've checked connections and everything is plugged in. It pops sometimes, and other times it just flickers once or twice. Is this a sign that the monitor is about to bite the dust or is there something else it could be?

If it is about to die, would it be worth trying to get it repaired or should I just buy a new monitor?

Cheers,
Brad

Sounds like a good excuse to replace it with an 17" LCD. There have been rumors about a 19" version coming soon, but nothing about the price.

A) Despite the space I would save with an LCD, they are expensive and don't provide the color correction I need for design work.

B) It just started doing it a few days ago, and it doesn't just do it when the screen sleeps. It does it while it's on and while I am trying to work.

Ugh, just did it...I'm gonna toss it out the window...

My rev a imac was doing the same thing. Then one day, it went snap crackle pop, dead. The monitor blew itself out. Took several weeks to get it fixed, and it was still never the same. Im on a 17 inch LCD, and I highly recommend one
