I've got a Quicksilver G4 with a Radeon 8500 stuffed in it. I have the CDRW drive instead of a DVD player. I was wondering...would be it possible to hook up an external commercial DVD player (made by Toshiba) to the video card to play DVDs through the monitor, and then output the sound from the DVD player itself via speakers?

A guy I know is getting rid of his second DVD player, so I was wondering if I could set it up with my system. This guy lives quite a ways away, so I can't just grab the DVD player and try to see if it'll work.

I'm paying shitloads for tuition, so I can't just go and buy a combo drive. This could get me DVD for free, maybe!

thanks
greg

I have a Radeon 8500 in my G4/466 and to the best of my knowledge the s-video connection is and output only. I don't think the card is capable of video capture or pass through. I'm about 95% sure that this is the case. Now if you found a DVD player w/firewire on it then you'd be all set. But there aren't many like that out there. You could buy a video capture card, but think that would defeat the purpose of what you're trying to do here. HTH

That's what I found too, Dave. As far as I can tell, it's output only.

Nope, I don't have a TV...I spent all my extra money on the Quicksilver....
