I have a TiBook 800 running Jaguar, and I print (via AppleTalk) to an HP LaserJet 2200dn. I have been running into some serious problems when printing pdfs. The trouble starts when I try to print pdfs that actually images of older journal articles.
Since these have been scanned in, they are typically 2MB or larger (for 10+ pages). When I go to print, my printer seems to choke on the file, and only belches out a page every 30 or so minutes. I've upgraded the memory from 8MB to 72MB. That didn't help. I then discovered that I had it set to print at 1200 dpi, so I dropped that to 600, then 300. Still no major improvements - although it may be a touch faster. I then switched a setting related to efficiency, or something like that (sorry, not near the printer right now, so I can't check it). This didn't help either. There are no problems when I print regular documents such as Word files, e-mails, etc. Standard pdfs (smaller files; not scanned in docs) don't cause me any problems.
I've been making all of these changes using the LaserJet Utility, running in Classic. I've tried logging in through a new account that I set up for troubleshooting and the problem is still there.
I've tried printing from a friend's eMac to an HP LaserJet 1200 that is connected by USB, and it zips right through it.
This is a new computer and a new printer (both ~3 months old). FWIW, the computer has 1GB RAM, and tha Jaguar install is an upgrade form 10.1.5.
That's all I can think of for now... I need some serious help! My printer is pretty useless if it takes an entire day to print a file.
Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
huh?
