i know this may be a major sin, but has anyone tried mixing linksys firmwares? i have a befsR 4port cable/dsl router. it appears that the befsX 4port firewall router is damn near the same thing.

i have looked through the manuals for each and they dont differ in hardware specifications. and pretty much the only difference in the manual is the firewall/vpn stuff.

so if i uploaded the X version into my R version would i have a "firewall vpn" hub instead of a regular hub?

thoughts, comments, suggestions? anyone brave enough to try it on theirs?

what would prevent you? all it is is a code.bin file that you are tftp'ing to the linksys. my concern is that after you upload the new code would be unhappy with the "old" box?
