hehe, the last couple years that Apple sold printes they were just HP printers with an apple logo. And before that, for several years they used Canon printers. All those old StyleWriter's were Canon Bubblejets.

StyleWriter was such a good name

The photo studio I work at recently purchased and Epson 2200. It's a tabloid-size, so it might be a little overkill for what you're looking for in terms of price ($699 US i think), but it's not un-attractive. It's one of the newest print engines Epson is selling, with the 7-color photo style inks. Epson does sell a letter-size version of it, but I'm not sure of the model number.

Since purchasing this printer, I don't think the boss has even turned on the power switch on our old C-print system. The quality is that good.

This assumes that you're looking for a 'photo' printer, which is all I've ever concerned myself with from the color ink-jet perspective. If you're looking for something with less per-sheet cost, crisper text and such, hmmm.... don't have any personal experience to add to that discussion. Other than to look for an inexpensive laser printer. They're still far better than inkjets for printing text and other black-and-white tasks.

OSX suppprt, for ANY manufacturer, is another story... don't get me started, as they say on the East Coast.... *smiles*

Regarding 'good looking'... all printers are ugly. Yes, they really are. So why not get one that just works well?

Remember, quality is not a dirty word.
The later laserwriter's were HP. I have a Laserwriter Pro 600 and it uses HP toner cartridges not GCC. Of course GCC could have designed some of HP's Laserjet's.
