Tonight as I was sitting here reading the forums, a very odd thing happened. My iPod which was sitting on the top of my desk in between the computer and CRT. It had been manually turned off (I always hold down the play button to do a manual shutdown)and completely unplugged. Suddenly the backlight turns on for second, then off, then does the same a few seconds later. Wondering what was goig on I turned it on, it had full battery and everything seemed nornaml, I don't have any alarms set, so it wouldn't have been that. The only signifigance was that it had just turned midnight. As odd as it sounds, I have personal reasons for wanting to discover why this happened.

Well obviously it was feeling neglected and wanted your attention.
Seriously, yeah that is weird, no idea but I am curious.

Thanks for the Apple doc link!
I'm currently waiting for the arrival of my iPod and had already heard about the issue from the iPodLounge and MacNN forums. Apparently, lots of people have noticed (and been freaked out about) the blinking backlight.
Hope Apple's future iPod updates cure that little hiccup!

I noticed that too. I remember my Newton used to come on for a few seconds at midnight too.

LOL! Okay. Like I said before I was inquiring for personal reasons. I consider my seff a very down to earth person. Unfortuently this past week was very bad one for me. A friend of mine here at school collapsed and died for unknwon reasons, and yesterday was his funeral. Understandably he'd been on my mind for quite a while, causing me to have severe lack of sleep (Which I now believe caused my reation to mu iPod!).
The thing is, less then an hour before he passed away, we had been sitting on a couch with some other friends watching the Lord of the Ring, and he and I started talking about my iBook and iPod.
So last night; the consitant thinking of my friend, along with his funeral prior in the day, his interest in the iPod, and my extreme lack of sleep. well I think you're can figure out what I was thinking.
Thanks for the link. But now I'm curious. How many of us mac users stay up laye watching out iPods. I mean if there's enough of us that they wrote a tech doc on it.
