I'm thinking about getting a T68i but am concerned about GSM coverage with AT&T in New York City. (I live in Brookyn).

Does anyone have experience of how AT&T's GSM coverage/sound quality diifers between their digital and GSM networks? Anyone have a T68i in New York? Love it/Hate it?

Thanks for any tips.

I don't live in NY so I can't comment directly on the service in NY. But, I live in DC and apparently we have good service but I've been unhappy especially with the T68. The T68 has poor RF reception and for the most part does not work indoors. At this point I would recommend staying away from GSM.

AT&T wireless service & reception SUCKS in NYC.
Verizon has by far the best cellular reception in NYC.

i have been within the 30 day MBG on the T68i nad am coming close to having to make a decision to go with AT&T or go back to Sprint.

In my experience with the phone over the past 25 days here are few points:

• Phone is cool (used IR transfer with my Powerbook -- I'll try bluetooth if i keep it)
-- I had a crappy old StarTac so this is leaps and bounds better
-- Sound quality is incredibly better - my calls don't cut in and out anymore
-- you can carry a pristine call with one bar -- try that Sprint!
-- My Battery lasts 4-5 days with normal calling
• Reception overall is good for me in NYC
-- the only shortcoming is deep inside *Certain* buildings - Signal doesn't penetrate
-- i work in the Flatiron district and those building around there are "Solid"
-- Other buildings are fine - i get 5 bars in my apt - and 2-3 at work (flatiron)
• Customer service is 100x better than Sprint
-- i started with 1000 mins/$40 -- now have 500 mins/Unlim nite/wknds/$35
• Reception in the other places i traveled to was better than my Sprint Phone
-- Eastern Pennsylvania, North Fork of Long Island,

Overall, i'm pretty happy and will make the plunge to keep the phone, migrate to AT&T service and *UGH* change my number. I think this network will only get better and just as i was the early adopter with Sprint, I'll do it here too...

I recommend trying it -- you've got 30 days and nothing to lose

jfischetti, you're talking me in to it. I'm already with AT&T in NY so I wouldn't have to change my number. Sounds like your plan is a bit of a deal too. Thanks for the info. Have you tried any of the Mmode services?

Mmode is pretty good....i particularly like the "location Services" that can locate (and let you know where another Mmode user is "within blocks"of a particular tower <--Pretty cool.

I'm also psyched to use my future bluetooth setup as a wireless modem for my Powerbook.

i have the 1mb Mmode Plan for now to see what i actually user.
