I am reformating my HD and i was wondering if when i reformat my HD i will loose all my mp3's even though they are on my iPod but not on my computer? Is it possible to transfer the mp3 songs back onto my computer?

You can set the ipod to manual in the ipod options of itunes and it won't automatically delete things on the ipod. In order to get the songs back off the ipod to your computer, though, you will have to use a third-party program. There are quite a few out there -- do a search for "ipod" on versiontracker and you should find some.
