Sorry if this subject has been already discussed ad nauseum, but here it goes again.
I've got a "model 1" B&W G3/350 (never buy something on the first day it's announced) running OS 9.0.2. After alot of massaging over the short years I've had it, it now works almost flawlessly, with a hangup or crash maybe once or twice a month at most. I tried "upgrading" to 9.2 something, but had lotsa s/w problems, so I went back to 9.0.2. All my software is now working super. Everything is nice in Macville.
I've got an RV that wants to have its sounds replaced. It has a Sony receiver/CD player that's about 7 years old (now prehistoric), and a CD changer that's kaput and out of the existing replacement parts world. I'm considering a JVC or similar CD receiver with a front panel AUX input and then I can ask Santa for an iPod to go with it, rather than getting a very limited CD changer again. Sounds like the way to go.
Now, here's my questions: Since I really want to avoid a bunch of s/w headaches again, I want to stick with OS 9.0.2. I notice that the iPods are coming with OSX which is understandable, but can I dump that OS and install 9.0.2 so I can use the iTunes (2.0.3) and CD burner setup I have now? If so, how do I go about the OS change? And, I assume all I need then is to patch a headphone cable and maybe an adapter from the iPod to the AUX input of the receiver and I'm on my way to musical bliss?
Appreciate your help!
-Al

Well, it sounds like what you want to do is actually pretty easy. The iPod itself doesn't us OS X or OS 9 to play music, but you will need iTunes 2.0 (iTunes 2 is OS 9 or X, while iTunes 3 is OS X only) or higher to access the iPod through your Mac. I'm not sure, but you may need to upgrade to OS 9.1 to use iTunes 2.0. OS 9.04 might work, though, it can't hurt to try. Of course, you lose the "Extra" functionality of the iPod, like addresses and calenders, but it still plays music just fine. Anyway, regarding the audio in jack on your stereo, yes, you can use that to plug directly into your iPod.

After thinking about this, I tested it , just to make sure the latest iPod firmware is OS 9 compatible. Using OS 9.1 and iTunes 2, I was able to acess my iPod and add and delete songs on it.
