here's what i have:

G4 DP450
Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104 (installed by me)
Toast Titanium 5.1
3 Memorex DVD+R 1sided, 4.7GB, 120min video (blank DVDs)

ive had the CDR/DVDR drive for about 8 months, have watched tons of DVDs and burned tons of CDs, so i know it works. Finally I bought some DVDRs and want to burn a disc of some data. how do i do this? i put a blank dvd in and it clicks for a while then spits it out. the "Write to DVD-RAM" option in toast never gets un-greyed-out. do i need other software? i was assuming i would.

please help.

thanks.

You can't use DVD+R or DVD-RAM in your drive. You need DVD-R. Once you have the correct discs, select DVD under the right-most tab in Toast and drag files to the window and burn as you would with a CD-ROM.

This is assuming that you have Toast Titanium. I don't think pre-5 versions have DVD capability.

I can verify, tho, that the 104 can & will write to DVD-R and DVD-RW (tho I haven't tried eraasing one of these puppies yet!).

as Icruise said, you've got the wrong media. go out and buy some DVD-R/RW media, then you're all set. you don't even really need toast, you can burn from the desktop. if you put a blank disc in (running X.2), it may ask you what you want to do with the blank DVD, or if you changed the CD/DVD sys prefs, it will do whatever that says. anyway, it will put the DVD-R on your desktop, and you can just drag stuff to it, then burn it.

although, for data burning, i still end up using toast because it's faster.

Just to clarify, get DVD-R for cheaper one-time writable discs, and DVD-RW for a bit more expensive but rewritable discs. If you want the highest compatibility with other DVD-ROM drives, you'll probably want to go with DVD-R.
