Anyone who bought a Powerbook before Apple came out with its superdrive cannot now get a functioning external firedrive (many available)due to threatened legal action by Apple preventing their use except by buying a $1000 program from them called DVD Studio Pro 1.5. This monopolist shenanigan is highly reminiscent of Microsoft's before the justice department started playing hardball with them. Apple has a short memory apparently (both Jobst and his computers).

This action by a company whose hype is to wean away PC users (isnt that a joke)is highly reprehensible in today's new business arena and in the midst of a recession with a high unemployment rate.
I assure Mr. FAT CAT Steve Jobst that the artists, graphic designers and musicians who depend on his stuff don't have anything near his standard of living and yet he needs to squeeze out every drop of blood from them.

This action by Apple infuriates its customers and I'm sure in the long run will deter sales and new potential PC customers when they hear about it. Besides this was Apple's chance to make its Fire drive a useful competitor against Intel's USB2. Stupidity seems to also be superimposed on greed.

I visualize a LUAU with a very fat PIG whose mouth is stuffed with an APPLE. This should be Apple's new logo.

To ALL: Contact your congressman and senator and report this outrage.. and get the justice dept. busy.

Also Apple's corporate address is 1 infinite Loop
Cuupertino, Ca. 95014

Tel of Corp. Apple: Ask for president or vice president
418 996-1010

Best luck to all.

I don't like the idea of Apple not having support for external burners either. But I don't think our congressmen or the justice department can do anything.

Know what's a fricken outrage? That Quartz Extreme isn't enabled on my iBook G3/600 because I bought it before they upgraded the chipset to the quartz extreme capable chipset. Also please write your congressman and the justice department. Maybe if we make enough noise Apple will give us all new iBooks.
