I have to use a floppy disk drive (to output digitized embroidery designs), but my Macally drive is not compatible with 10.2.2. It was working in 10.2.0 without any problems. Can't find any information on the Apple site.
Anyone using an external USB floppy disk drive with 10.2.2? Apple sells the SmartDisk...anyone using that one with success?
Thank you!
Kim

What's a floppy disk? jk That is weird, are you sure the drive is working? To test it you could reboot into os9 and see if it is working there. Did you try a different USB port? Look under system profiler, do you see the drive hooked up? Is this thing USB powered or does is have a power supply? I think it's so funny these tiny 1.44MB disks are still used. What, do you need to give these things out, jc.

Yep, I'm having the SAME annoying problem. It's a good thing I have every other disk and memory format known to mankind.

One of my friend gave me that SmartDisk/VST USB floppy drive to me hwile back, it did work with 10.1.x, but not 10.2.x. My solution is to network my iMac to my old PowerMac 6100 and use the floppy drive on my 6100. Lastly, who cares about a 3.5" floppy disk besides those silly professors who ask for it. (turning in assignment on a floppy disk)

The drive is connected to a 4 port hub which is powered. It worked fine until 10.2.2. As soon as 10.2.2 was installed I started getting error messages. It appears that the system thinks there is a disk in the drive. I can not have the drive plugged in on start up. If I need to use the drive, it will work fine if I insert the disk, then plug in the drive. No error messages after that. It is just annoying that I can no longer leave it plugged in all the time.
I also have a zip drive, but I need to use a floppy disk drive. I own an embroidery business and I also digitize embroidery designs. The embroidery machine only has 2 floppy drives. Many designs are emailed to customers, but some others need the design on a floppy disk.
Thanks,
Kim

Thanks...no, I did not write them. I went to their site to see if they had any drivers. I will send them an email. Kim

I just had a little glitch with one of my removable media. What you might want to try is if you put a disk in and it does not show up on the desktop, relaunch the finder.
Command+option+esc (it's the force quit window, which you can also activate from the Apple menu) and select the finder and then the relaunch button. It will only relaunch the Finder so don't worry about anything else you have open. After the relaunch everything showed up, it's fast and easy. Of course it shouldn't be an issue, but this is not bad. Hope it works for you.

I have a few beige G3's running 10.2.2 and it won't recognize the built-in floppy drive. Anyone noticed this?
