Hi all,

A little 'heads up' to those of you looking to make peripheral purchases or file warranty claims with QPS, Inc. of California.

I was notified today by the Southern California Better Business Bureau that QPS , Inc. filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on November 5, 2002.

I found this information after a long, arduous process of trying to 'deal' with this company over a Que! 8x4x32 Firewire CD-RW that breaks like clock-work every 5 months or so.

As I know many users have had issues with the company, the only recourse left is to file a financial claim against the company through any United States Bankruptcy Court. You will need a claim form for case #SA-02-16187.

The BBB has been wonderful in handling this case for me-and I know many others out there have issues as well. Best of luck.

Well my QPS has been working like a champ for 2 years. I heard that they were close to bankruptcy about 6 months ago, guess it is true. Shame, they had nice drives.

That's too bad. I've been very pleased with their CD-RW I purchased earlier this year. But I have heard a number of people have had difficulty in dealing with them when something has gone wrong. Always disappointing to see a vendor who supported macs go under....

Yeah, I bought one of their drives and had problems with it right away, if was great at making coasters. There was a firmware update that had to be install, but you needed a PC, not Mac updaters for the drive. I promptly boxed it up and shipped it back to outpost.com and got a Sony external drive. I remember that the problem was due to the drive mechanism, and they had used many different brands and branded them all the same, of course depending on the mechanism dictated wether or not you had a problem, the whole thing was a mess. There were many other people trying to go through their tech support, and I simple remember being shock as to how they were treated. I was amazed that this company designed an enclosure to compliment the Mac, yet had such horrible support for it. Anyway I swore them off and turned people away from their product due to these experiences. I am not sad to see them go.

Check out some of the reviews of QPS over at C|Net/ZDNet - it's a virtual lynch mob in some of the discussions. I've had mix results with their products, but horrible techical support, and that was my greatest problem with them.

They consistently *refused* to respond to any requests, email or telephone, for warranty service! On top of that, they charge the customer a $40 handling fee for the shipping while under warranty. My CD-RW crapped out less than a year after purchase, and then again several months after a replacement arrived. Ugh. Oh well, I took the loss and got a Yamaha 40x anyhow. ;-)
