I recently bought an education version of the PowerMac G4 867 with a Sony G420S 19" display. The brightness of the screen is great, but the image appears very shakey. This is noticable at all resolutions, especially around the edges of the screen. When I mess with the "moire" option, I can get portions of the screen to be stable, but not perfect. This hurts my eyes after long sessions on the computer. Although my Samsung 950b (which was $200 less) is not shaky at all sitting in the same place.

I have the monitor set at 80Hz, which is the only acceptable refresh rate to my eyes. When hooked up to my PowerMac, this is the highest refresh rate possible, but my PC can drive it at 100Hz even though its graphic card is not as good (GeForce 2MX on the PC and Radeon 9000 on the Mac.)

Is my monitor defective (regarding the shaking problem)? If so, is Sony good with their support as I don't want to pay shipping on this monster back to their warehouse.

Thanks.

You could have a defect, but there could be some other reasons.

From your description, I assume that the refresh rate is not the issue (80Hz should look pretty good). Magnetic fields could cause this. Try taking your monitor to another location and trying it. I remember a situation where below a room with a bunch of large Trinitron displays there was a machine room. It really messed up the displays (causing shaking).

If you move it to a really different location and this still happens, I have no idea, probably defective.
