I have OS X 10.1.5 and need to use my firewire HD between it and PCs running Windows 2000. For some reason the HD won't show up on the PC. I've tried Mac OS and MS-DOS formatting...both are fine on the Mac but not on the PC.

I know a few people who have recently bought firewire HDs that work on both right out of the box.

Does anyone know how to format it and if I can do it using the OS Xs disk utility?

First of all, the PC may need software in order to see FireWire drives at all. Second, try formatting the disk as FAT32 on the PC. The Mac should be able to see it then.
