Is there a list anywhere of CD-RWs that are supported by Apple? I am thinking about upgrading to a 40-900X burner (compared to 8x), but I don't want to get "burned" on compatibility.

You could have looked at - surprise! - the iTunes website: http://www.apple.com/itunes/compatibility/ (that's linked right from the iTunes home page)

Thank you very much.

Interesting: those are all FW drives. What about internal drives? What about internal drives in a FW case (third party)?

Look at the chart. Apple's basically telling you what the 'stencil brand' Firewire drives really are. The row labeled 'Mechanism' is the internal drive inside each of those FW external cases with someone's stencil slapped on it.

Basically get any of those drive mechs, put it in the FW external case of your choosing (or any of those drives will work internally as well) and you're set.

By the way, I recommend you look into Lite-On CD-RW mechs (my personal fave) for one of the best price/performance ratios going.
