I currently own a Quicksilver G4 800 which has only a CD-R drive. I was thinking of upgrading to a SuperDrive. What are my options for an internal drive to replace my CD-R drive. I am mainly concerned with the CD-R write speed as I mainly use the drive to burn CD's and occasionally watch DVD's. I understand that Pioneer has released a new faster drive. Can this be installed in my G4 and is it difficult. Should I wait untill the prices come down or newer models are released. Where is the best place to purchase the drive and can I use iDVD. Thanks

you can put in any retail pioneer DVR-A05. it should work fine. i have an A04 in my sawtooth 450, and it works fine with all the apps: iDVD2, toast, discburner, iTunes. fully supported.

if you're mainly going be burning CD's with this drive, take note that the highest CD-R write speed is only 16x. my A04 only has a write speed of 8x, but i really don't mind, as i usually end up doing other things while the cd is burning.

you can order iDVD2 from the apple store. even though it says 'upgrade', it is a full install of the app, and it works fine for G4's running superdrives on the IDE.

check the pdf's located here for info on installing stuff in you quicksilver. shouldn't be difficult at all.

i wouldn't wait to get a drive, or wait until faster ones come out. the A05 was just released, and it supports DVD-R write speeds of 4x. i mean, i guess you could wait, but if you want it now, or need it now, then why wait? i bought my drive from here , and was pretty happy with their prices and service.
