i bought a logitech mx500 a week ago and so far really dig it, but in the last few days it has started tracking real bad, reminds me kind of like my old trackpad on my lombard the pointer moves about sporadically and wont track sometimes, the only way i can fix it momentarily is either to unplug and replug it in again or to tap it down on my mouse pad hard.

i installed the logitech control center software for osx.

i'm thinking about just taking it back to staples and exchanging it.

i'm just about to go on a road trip for a week and want to take it with me.

should i just replace it?

TIA

Replace it. Something must've happened with the tracking mechanism. I've had mine for a month now and the tracking is flawless.

well i just replaced it and the new one just did it also.

a friend of mine told me i should download usb overdrive x from versiontracker and dump the lcc control center. just a drag that the overdrive is 20$ just for a driver.

i'm not sure what the problem could be. always seems to get back to normal if i unplug it or tap it down firmly on the mouse pad.

i figured it out, its my 3M "precise mousing surface" mouse pad, its designed for ball mice and i think that the traction ridges on it mess with the optical sensor, when the mouse acts up with tracking i take the pad away and put the mouse on my desk and it tracks fine.

think i just need to get another mouse pad, which stinks cuz this one is nice, has the gel pad for your palm/wrist.

Odd, my optical mice just love mouse pads, they hate glass desk surfaces and woodgrain something fierce.

Does that 3M mousepad happen to have an aquatic design on it? It so, I had the same problem!

I do not use a mousepad anymore. Believe it or not, the only mousepads I can find in stores are ones with polar bears and clunky "wrist protectors" which I can't stand.

Have fun on your trip!
