I'm trying to buy my brother an X-Mas presant and want to get a scanner. He has a dual Gig G4 w/OSX. He doas alot of graphics work and drawing w/his Wacom tablet.

I'm looking for good resolution and compatibility w/Jag.

Can anyone tell me which scanner to get?

Depends on how much you want to spend, but, IMHO, Epson is the only way to go. They also have a TWAIN driver for OS X, located here.

Thanks for the reply, but the link is not working.

I'm looking at 2 scanners from Apple's site:

-Perfection 1660 $179 http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...27.8.3.27.13.0

-HP ScanJet 3570c Scanner $149 http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...27.8.3.26.13.0

I'm wide open to suggestions though.

I'm a bit worried by the Epson because it has this disclaimer on the site:
(NOTE: the Epson Perfection 1660 offers basic scanning functionality natively in OS X v.10.2 through the Image Capture application. Please check www.epson.com for additional driver updates.)

I'm using a Perfection Photo 2450 on OS X 10.2. The TWAIN drivers work fine from either Image Capture or Photoshop.

I've used it to scan both photos and 35mm and larger negatives.

I've had an Epson 1200U for a while and it works great! I used to use it with VueScan all the time, but find myself using the TWAIN support more often now.

I use an Epson 1640, and it works fine, with the Twain drivers, in Jaguar, both through Photoshop and through Image Capture. I sell lots of Epsons with the Macs, and I've not had anyone come looking for me with an axe yet.

When scanning a 35mm negative or slide with the 2450, what's the largest photo quality print you can make? I've wanted to get a scanner for this purpose for awhile but never figured I could get much larger than a 4x6 print without spending big $ for the scanner. Thanks.

With a good scan you can print to A4 (approx 8x10. This doesn't allow you much room for cropping but it does make the 2450 a reasonably priced alternative to a specialist film scanner, at least for occasional use.
