My parents have a 400MHz Graphite iMac, and recently their puck mouse gave out on them. Dad bought a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical, one of those white-and-grey chimmerjigs.

Anyways, it doesn't work on the keyboard USB ports. Plugging it into the side port will let the mouse "light-up" fine and be ready to go, but neither side of the keyboard will work. Furthermore, the new Apple clear mice seem to be fine with those ports.

Anyone know of a possible problem? I don't know anything about Microsoft mice, and haven't had any problems with the Razor Boomslang I have....

okay...what OS are you running? I had slight problems whilst installing that mouse on my iBook, here is what I did. Rebooted in OS9 loaded the software, restarted on the reboot the light shined and then installed the OSX software, it worked. If I only installed the OSX software and no OS9 software nout happened. If that doesn't work try going to versiontracker and downloading the recent driver update to that mouse.

in X, just plugging it should be fine. my mom got my sister's old iMac DV SE 400. she didn't like the puck, so i let her borrow my intellimouse explorer to see if she liked it. plugged it into the keyboard in X, and worked fine. didn't have to install 9 drivers first. didn't even install X drivers. the only thing that didn't work were the side buttons (that's where the MS drivers come in), but i didn't bother installing them, as this was just temporary.

have you restarted the computer with the MS mouse plugged in?
