i hope this is in the right forum, if not moderators can move it....

can someone please explain scsi to me. i started using macs after usb came out and i now have a pb1400 with a scsi port. all the adaptors for the pb1400 say it is a hdi30 to a 25 pins scsi. which is fine, but when i go and look up getting a scsi card for my B&W G3, i see "scsi 2" .."ultra scsi", 68 pin scsi, 50pins scsi to centronics...etc....(it's enough to make ya dizzy)....all i want to do is use a pci card to connect my pb1400 to my B&W G3 and use scsi target disk mode to access the hd on the pb1400 and to be able to connect to pb1400 to a scsi iomega zip 100.......
thank you in advance for your help

[ It been a while since I've had a SCSI Mac, so what follows might be a bit inaccurate... ]

Older powerbooks had a small square external scsi connector called a HDI-30 connector
(HDI-30 has 30 pins). Older macs (and Zip drives) came with a rectangular scsi connector
called a DB-25 connector (DB-25 has 25 pins).

Here is a bit more info on SCSI and the PB1400:

http://www.its.caltech.edu/~dgoulet/...orts.html#scsi

In order to go from HDI-30 to DB-25 one had to buy an L-Shaped convertor that plugged
into the back of a powerbook and converted the HDI-30 port into a DB-25 port. Here is
one potential source of this adapter:

Since most B&W G3's don't have SCSI cards, you will need a PCI scsi card with a DB-25
connector. Your cheapest options are the Adaptect 2906 and the 2930:

Both are decent SCSI cards and work under OS 9 and OS X.
