Hi,
I'm looking to get an ipod with some christmas money and I've heard of a few complaints about them, such as superficial scratches, short battery life, bad earbud, etc. For thos people that actually own them, I was wondering what kind of problems have you encountered?
Merry Christmas/happy holidays!

My refurb 5G is perfect, and one of the best presents I ever gave myself. Battery life is near the rated 10 hours, stock Apple earbuds fit my ears and sound fine, case doesn't scratch any more than any of the other products Apple makes with the white under clear plastic finish. A few songs haven't ripped correctly in iTunes, but that happens sometimes. I'm very pleased with the whole system, and I use my iPod most every day now.

Scratches on the metal casing are very common. That seems to be the norm with Apple's current hardware lineup, though. Just use a case/protector and you should be OK.
Some people have battery troubles, but that's just a small percentage of the hundreds of thousands of iPods out there. When looking online, you just hear about the problems more often than the ones that are totally fine.
I think the earbuds included with the iPod are quite nice. They're much better than the second-rate junk usually included with MP3 players. Of course, you might still consider the purchase of a higher quality set of headphones. Nothing out of the ordinary here.
Overall, I think the iPod is the Best Thing Ever™. I've had no problems with mine. If the iPod was crap, it wouldn't be the trendsetter it is. The thing is just amazing. Go ahead and get one. I can't recommend any other product more than the iPod.

i bought my ipod the first day they went on sale....never had a problem with the battery. i used apple's buds for a while but then decided to get some better ones (the sony ex70...great choice)....but i hear that the newer apple buds are a bit better than the originals too.
i use my pod just about every day...best gift i ever bought myself (as above post says...)

I second the notion that the iPod is the Best Thing Ever. Everything about it is excellent. My only problem has been some minor scratches to the exterior b/c I didn't use a case when I first got it. Otherwise, it's excellent. Run out and get one as soon as y ou can!

Mine is perfect, no problems. I have one tiny scratch on it, I have a case that is Super Dooper. One of the best purchases you can make. I bought the solid state 10GB.

Hate to be the Grinch here but..
my 5gig iPod died when it was 3 weeks out of warranty.
I had never mistreated it, just had the misfortune to get one with a bad battery that started misbehaving in October, but I didn't have time to chase around the Internet looking for answers, just thought I wasn't charging it often enough.
By the time I realized I had a serious problem, not amenable to fixes posted on Apple.com and elsewhere, the IPod was dead and out of warranty. Since I am not willing to pay the $255 demanded by Apple to repair a $400 device,it is now a paperweight, which I will keep in hopes some 3d party will make it affordable to resurrect it.
If you buy an iPod,I would suggest the CompUSA TAP extended warranty, which must be added within 14 days of purchase if you don't buy the iPod from CompUSA.
1 year warranty is not long enough to be sure your battery won't fail.
It was fun while it lasted

Sadly no, but there is a one year warranty, which unfortunately many original ipodders did not get 'til is was too late for them. However, many people have purchased the extended warranty plan from CompUSA, this might not be a bad idea for some piece of mind.

Just curious if anyone or if it's possible to purchase CompUSA TAP online?
