I have the same exact problem with the Black Powermate I ordered directly from Griffien Tech., it will only pulse under the "always pulse" setting, when the Powermac sleeps the blue light is out.

I e-mailed Griffen technologies and about 3 weeks later I received a response that if the Powermate is not pulsing while sleeping it is defective.

I was offered an exchange for a silver one as they don't make the black ones anymore, no offer of Griffen paying the shipping back, they wouldn't even send the new one until after they received the defective one back.

That and the 3 weeks waiting for an e-mail shows the wonderful customer service Griffen has!

I have the aluminum version - it pulses as it's supposed to when my mac is sleeping. In the settings, I have just selected the 'Pulse during sleep' and then a rate.

I know I'm ressurrecting this old thread, but I found it b/c I have the exact same thing going on. I got one for Christmas, and it pulses only when the computer is awake.

Mine's on a Cube/450. I emailed them last week, and haven't heard back!

My mac is a iMac G3/600, running X.2.3 with 256 mb ram. Didn't have problems when I was running X.1.5 either.

Have you tryed to change the USB port? I have mine in my keyboard's left port. And then, ofcourse I guess you gous tryed that, but reinstalling drivers and downloading the latest? That's what I can come up with now. Hope you can get the problem fixed.

I wrote them again last night after posting in this thread. I heard back from 'Randall' who said he'd be able to provide a replacement PowerMate, and asked for my shipping info to send one out- before shipping mine back to them!

So it doesn't look like there's a reason to dig for a software solution, if right off the bat griffin is offering to replace it.... I've sent him my shipping info, so I'm looking forward to a sleep-pulsing powermate showing up soon....
