I am looking for an inexpensive IDE case that has a FW connection so i can hook it up to my ibook and Sony video cam. I would like to do some light iMovie work but I do not have the space on my laptop HD.

I already have a large enough IDE HD i do not use so I am looking for a case that I can sit it inside of. Can anyone recommend a good solution without me having to pay the big bucks for a case? External power supply is fine with me since the drive won't be traveling much.

THANKS!

I recommend a pair of enclosures from Century Global:

The Soho 2.5" Palm Size for 2.5-inch laptop drives. It takes both 12.5mm and 9.5mm laptop drives. I grabbed one of those even though my 12.5mm 32GB IBM Travelstar is not going to be replaced until I can find IBM's 80GB.

Or there's the 3.5" IceCube for regular 3.5-inch desktop drives. I think the OWC Mercuty Elite I bought is just a rebranded version of this case, because they look virtually identical, except the color. It has no fan.

Lastly, I have a spare 3.5"/5.25" Firewire/USB2 combo up for sale if you might be interested in a case that doesn't see more than 137GB:

thank you,

But does anyone know about ones w/o the USB 2.0, I assume it drives the price up a bit and I have no need for it anyway.

Check out dealmac or yahoo shopping. I don't think 3.5" fanless enclosures typically have both Firewire and USB2.

Look at dealmac.com. I think they listed that macsales.com has a ADS Pyro for $59. It has the Oxford 911 chipset too.
