Does anybody know if a ATA serial drive will work inside of a Firwire housing. I was thinking of purchasing one of these drives but I want to make sure that I don't have any surprises.

You'ld need a firewire enclosure with a Serial ATA connection.

I read a review recently of a serial ata drive. It was slower on read than an ata 133 drive but faster on write(might be the other way around). i didn't realize that it also had a different power connecter than the old ata drives.

it requires an adapter to the old style molex connecter.

Thank god. Those old 4-pin connectors are horrible. Hard to get in, harder to get out. It's about time we got a modern replacement to them!

Why does the power connector have more than four connections?

I don't think a card edge connector is a "modern" replacement for the molex connectors used on drives. There are plenty of connections options, but a card edge connector would seem to be the least reliable for this type of use.

The reason they picked that power connecter is because it is easy to take off and on. One of the advantages of serial ata is that it is you can swap the drives out while the computer is on.
