Gooday,

I would really like to start playing games on my Mac, instead of turning to my PC every time I feel like playing Graphic-demanding games such as Max Pane and War Craft III.

My G4 450 has a 2x AGP and still has its original ATI rage pro card. It doesn't really do much for games and I would like to buy a new VGA for it. There are so much to choose from and I don’t know what’s good for this outdate 2x AGP slot.

I read that if I get a fast card and the AGP speed is too slow, it will have a bottleneck affect and will not perform at it's full potential. Should I get a Geforce 2 card or faster or is that already overkill for the slow 2x AGP. or are there cheaper ATI cards out there? (oh yeah, which ones will be compatible with quartz extreme compat?)

I'm not very technical, but for my PC I have an AGP 4x so I bought myself a GF3Ti card because at the time that was the fastest AGP and fastest card.

You have to be careful that the card will work in the 2xAGP slot. The GeForce 4Ti won't (power requirements IIRC). My choice would be an ATI Radeon 8500.

Agree on the ATI 8500. I am using a G-4 450, albeit dual processor, and the 8500 made a world of difference in gaming.

Check out the "Flashing success" 8500 thread in the powermac board, You can pick up a PC 8500 for less than $100, and it works great. I upgraded my sawtooth G4/500 with one, and its been great - quartz extreme as well.

i have a dual 500 and a Nvidia MX2 Twinview and get decent frame rates in Quake 3 about 45 at 1024X768 and pumped up specs. worth the 130 i paid for it almost a year ago. and my only requirement was ADC so i was all set, just plug and play.
