i just got a 5gig iPod and i want the battery to be in tip top condition. what is the best way to handle it's initial charging? do i plug it in and let it charge all the way up right away or do i let it drain all the way first and then charge like crazy?
Thanks

let it fully charge the first time -- it's good to run it down to empty once in a while as well....

One thing I found is that if you let the battery totally run down, the car adaptor will not charge it up properly. I thought I'd broke mine when this happened, but when I got it home and plugged it in the Mac in started up and then recharged. I'm not sure what is different about the car adaptor from the regular firewire cable.

Have you run it so that the battery is completely dead?

It is a Lithium-polymer battery, so there is no need to completely discharge it every time.

Absolutely true. Moreover, it's even bad to drain them completely, better to leave them charged all the time.

thanks for the info. i was wondering because i heard that certain battery types (my tibook's for instance) need to have a certain method applied to their initial charge. if you don't do it correctly the battery won't give a full charge each time so I wanted to avoid lessening the battery life.
Thanks
