Hi all,

I have my laserjet 5n configured using cups and gimp print. I have the quality set to 600dpi, but the prints still look as though they have been made using a dot matrix. they're just not as smooth as they used to be when the printer was on the pc.

in cups it's configured as a ldp/lpr printer, but they're is an option for an hpjetdirect, which I tried but couldn't get working.

there's a jetdirect card in the printer, which is how it's connected to my home network.

Anyone seen this problem or suggest how I might get back to decent laser quality.

cheers,

Justin.

Did you try the generic HP LaserJet PPD that's in Print Center under "ESP" (in the printer brand menu)?

The LaserJet should have postscript. Even if it doesn't, CUPS + Ghostscript can be used to print via PCL.

For the unfortunate inkjetters, there still is Turboprint for MacOS X (e. g. the GIMPprint drivers for my S630 are horrible, the TurboPrint drivers can handle photo quality print outs).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
