I have a 5GB iPod that went out of warranty less than a month ago. I was using it fine last week and had it fully charged when I unplugged it. I did not use it for this week and now it is TOTALLY unresponsive.

• The screen is completly blank.
• I tried charging the unit, but several hours of attempted charging by both the wall charger and my PowerBook produced nothing on the screen
• I have tried to reset it many times, but that does nothing.

I have no idea what I should do. Thoughts?

BTW, I searched the forums, as I imagine that I'm not the only one with the problem, but saw nothing just like mine. Sorry if there's duplication.

Thanks for the help!!

Wow, that's a bad problem! Something like this happened to me once. Menu and Play, wouldn't fix it. I ended up plugging it into my iBook, and reinstalling the iPod software on it, it fixed it. Hope this helps!

You say you re-installed the software, how'd you do that. Did your computer recognize the unit? Mine gives nothing.

My 5GB did the same thing a few months ago:

Letting the power drain completely is what worked for me (might take a day, or two... Just be patient).

Hope that helps .

If nothing else helps you can try opening it up and disconnecting the battery. I've heard that helps in cases where the iPod was apparently dead. You should be able to find instructions somewhere on the net.

It's working again!

Ok, nuts, but I found the solution. Have a friend plug it in for you.

I probably plugged it into various computers, with various FW cables, various outlets with the power adapter, and when I was upset I told a co-worker. He plugged it into my PowerBook and it worked fine!

Seriously though, I have no clue what the problem was, it took me about 4 days to get it working again and now it seems like it's working as new.
