Just watching the MWSF keynote -- Steve introduced a $499 snowboarding jacket that has an iPod pocket and a remote control built into the sleeve. I kept waiting to hear that an iPod was included in the price, but apparently not. $499?

Actually, for a decent GoreTex snowboarding jacket, this isn't a bad price (and Burton makes decent stuff). It is a specialty product as well, and the form-fitting pocket for the iPod and fabric sleeve controls are pretty nice...

Burton makes excellent snowboarding apparel as somebody already said. And they are GoreTex, often in the $400+ range.
That said, I get my GoreTex jackets from China (where most are made), for about $50. You shouldn't be listening to an iPod while snowboarding anyway. It's up there with riding a bicycle on city streets while listening to a walkman. Great way to get maimed.

Might be an amusing effect when you wipe out though -- you hit a jump, lose your balance, tumble down the slope in a ball of snow, meanwhile the contact with the ground causes your music to randomly flip from song to song, and jack up the volume... heh

Wow, everyone likes to complain about prices. Yes, macs are expensive.. so don't be surprised. Snowboarding too.. A very expensive hobby.... Snowboarding pants start at the very least at almost $100 (cheapo brands). Burton is THE brand in snowboarding.. Like Nike is for basketball. Boards can go upwards of $700 +. The apparel is also VERY expensive. 9 years ago, I got my first Burton snowboard jacket at about $300 and that was the cheapest one!
It was funny that at the keynote, you heard everone sorta grumble when the price was mentioned. But little do they know! Heck, I have a North Face fleece jacket. Yup, it's ONLY fleece and it was over $100.. Probably Old Navy has one in a commercial somewhere for $12.99. Oh well. You pay for quality.

Hmmm... Funny you should say that.
My North Face GoreTex ski jacket with fleece liner costs $40. It's amazing how high the markup is in North America.
OTOH, a TiBook costs more in China last I heard.

Wait till you see the price of shoes here in NA. Yeah I heard the same thing in about China. A lady I worked with was buying like 4 digital cameras online to send to family in China because she said in China, they're SUPER expensive.

Is there some sort of hard shell to protect the iPod in this jacket?
Also, according to Apple the lowest temperature is should be used with is 32ºF. Will the iPod stay warmer if it's that close to your body?
