I'm planning to buy the cheapest iPod, and it has not been upgraded since it's release over a year ago, so I'm really hoping that they will upgrade it to a larger harddrive or lower the price. And it seems to me that an update is not far away since it was about six months since the last iPod update.

I was really, really hoping that Apple would have upgraded the iPods at MacWorld expo, but no luck..

So, when is it likely that Apple will update their iPod line? When is the next big event..?

Apple will update the iPod the next time they have a change ready to make. If the current iPod meets your needs buy one. If not then wait for the next.

I bought a 10GB iPod 2 weeks before they released the 20GB one. Whilst I would have liked the extra space, remote control etc, I'm happy with my iPod. It does the job I want it to do.

It does meet my needs space wise, but if a update is around the corner I would feel tricked if I bought one now and they updated it soon after..

Hard to decide.. I think I'll wait and see.

Well I waited for ages before buying my iBook, when I did within the month they lowered the price and upgraded them. The fact is - no matter when you buy hardwear they will always update it and it will be sods law it will be the week after you buy it. So Just Buy It!
