Will firewire 2 enable higher-resolution dv video capture, or does firewire 1 provide enough bandwidth to import dv from analog video?

In other words, should I buy a formac studio dv now, or wait until a firewire 2 version?

Hi there. If you're working with just DV video, you don't need to worry about firewire 2, because DV video streams are a constant bit rate of about 3.5Mb per second (give or take a few kbs), which regular firewire more than adequately copes with. So, you can get yourself one of those studioDVs, IMHO!

I have a studio DV, and I find that on the whole it gives a good rendition of the analogue video source, but it sometimes struggles with reds, which appear to be striped on the majority of my video captures. So be warned, and if you get a chance, test the studio DV alongside its competitors, or ensure that wherever you bought it from will take it back if you're not happy with it...

Cheers

DV format video is a stream at 25mbit/sec, and current Firewire is 400mbit capable. Obviously not an issue.

In fact, I'm trying to think of anything (device, or use) at the moment that even comes close to saturating current 400mbit Firewire, much less needs 800mbit. Firewire RAIDs, I suppose.
