I am looking for a small portable firewire hard drive that is bus powered to be used as a transfer disk from work to home. I need at least a 30 GB drive and will be transfering or possibily editing video among other things. I'm looking at the EZQuest and LaCie 60GB 5400rmp or possibly VST.

la cie.
period.
i also have the 60 gig. fantastic. no drivers needed xcept on win98 relics. works fine with win xp with no need to ensure drivers are on that machine.
but what i like most about la cie in general is that they are, somehow, very mac-centric. really. i at first thoght they were dealing only with mac products, that is how mac aware they are.
the 60 gig firewire hd that i have is their pocket drive edition. i like the rubberized edges. totally cool. past modern.
i have contacted them recently with a question about when they expect to come out with a firewire pocket series dvd-r/cd-rw, and they told me tht we can expect it in early 2003.
one proviso: firewire 800: since these last a lifetime, maybe if i was you, if i had a few months, i would wait until one with 800 speed appeared.
anyway, la cie!

I'm also trying to decide bewtween the two:
[1] EZQuest SlimLine
[2] Lacie PocketDrive
Both seems good, but the EZQuest seems to have gotten more accolades from MacWorld and PC Magazine. I guess you can't really go wrong with either of these good choices. Then, it'll come down to whichever is less expensive for me then. Arghhh....the choices.
[Update:] Found the EZQuest Slimline at eCost for $187 and the Lacie PocketDrive for $229 (click on BUY Now).
**They will add $8.95 (in US) for "Handling" even though it said FREE Shipping- sneaky!!
I went with the EZQuest.

I have the Lacie PocketDrive 20GB. The best feature for me is it has both USB and FireWire connections. And the Lacie "SilverKeeper" backup software seems to work pretty well. And it just looks cool too.

I like my solution. I bought a clear FW case from crywolfstore.com($99) and a 40GB IBM Travelstar from Dell (got it for $107 total). Total ~$207. Clear case, blue led, works like a charm and holds a lot of stuff. Two FW ports and runs on bus power but there is a plug for AC power too.
