I just purchased a 160 Gig Western Digital SE / 8mb cache.

Only after I purchased it did I find out about the 137 gig access limitation issue. Is this a problem with ALL computers? I plan on using it with an iMac 17". I haven't tried it yet because I don't have the enclosure yet. I plan on getting a Firewire OXford911 box for it. How do I handle this issue since there is no place to insert the PCI card that came with the drive?

Thank you for any help.

I am extremely curious about exactly the same issue, as I'm on the verge of getting the same drive! I hope it's not a problem!

the 137GB limitation is not a computer thing, it has to do with the ATA controller. check out this thread

as for firewire cases, it depends whether the bridge board in the case implements 48-bit LBA (logical block addressing). if it does, it should see larger drives.

i know the latest drive cases from wiebetech (http://www.wiebetech.com/products.html) state that they can see 200GB drives.
