I took my new iPod 5 GB out of the box and plugged it in the outlet. Now it charges for 6+ hours, could the battery be bad?

I donīt have a iPod so canīt be specific just about that device. But all battery powered devices especially LiON, NiMH based cells needs a long charge time the first time. iPod uses LiON based cells and i would recommend that you keep you iPod connected to the charger for atleast 12-16 hours the first time you are charging it.

Thank you for your info. But the iPod has a Lithium-Polymer battery, says it on Apple's website. Does that make a difference?

is the little battery icon in the upper right corner still "moving"? if its solid, your ipod is done charging. your screen will say "do not disconnect" as long as your ipod is mounted on the desktop. a 6 hour charge seems a bit odd to me.
also, has your computer been awake the whole time? if it goes to sleep it wont charge the ipod and when you wake it up it will REcharge going through another 2-3 hour cycle.

Seems normal to me, when connected via FireWire.
But also via the charger, if it is a first time charge,.. Just leave it there overnight and it will be fine in the morning!

Sorry, translation error. I thought "outlet" to mean the "power outlet. I am not charging via FireWire, for the reasons written above. The iPod is loading still... (10 hrs+)
Weird, isn't it?

I just woke up. I had my iPod over night in the wallet plugged in. And think what ... it's charging anymore. Now since 24 hrs. When I pull the plug, it say's it's fully charged. Should I reset the iPod?

I think it to be a problem with the displayed information. Although the loading sign is shown, respectively the animated battery symbol, it seems to be fully charged. I pulled the plug and let it play all day long. I got over 10 hrs. So the battery should be all right, I hope it will not get a deffect through this "unlimited-charge-problem", since I believe it only shows to get load, but doesn't anymore if it's full.
Maybe anyone can use this info later...
