I use a GigaBook (yes, I'm one of the losers now) and I try to connect my SonyEricsson P800 via bluetooth to my powerbook. Using 10.2.3. But when I "Search for Phones..." from the Bluetooth menu in the upper right corner, my mac simply can't find my P800.

The "funny" thing is that _my P800_ can find my mac via bluetooth and can even find out the name I have given it. Yes, I'm even "connected" to it. So I know that bluetooth generally is working. From that end. So I'm connected to the mac from the phone, but not the other way around. And I need the mac to recognize the P800 in order to use gprs, to send sms from the Address Book etc (I even hope to sync even though Apple is soooo slow when it comes to support new phones with iSync!)

Has anybody else succeed in finding the P800 from the mac and then "pairing" it to the mac? Any tips?

lucky bastard...

(okay, sorry, this post doesn't help your problem in anyway, but are there really a large number of people out there with a GigaBook and a p800? hell, you can't even find a P800 in the US)

I'm lusting after this phone, but don't have it yet (as it's not in the States, and I won't pay $1000 or so for an imported model).

There's another thread around here regarding the issue you're having. Good luck! Enjoy the phone!

Yes, I'm lucky to live in one of SonyEricsson's "prioritized markets". But then again, we pay 25 % sales tax here in Sweden so it costed a bit: 7800 SEK = $900. That would be $720 without the sales tax.

Anyway, I solved half the problem for a while. The computer recognized my phone and was able to pair with it! But then, chose to I break the pairing to find out what I actually had done differently, but now I can't pair them again!

The story is that this morning, I opened the Bluetooth preferencepane, and I could actually find the P800 in "Paired devices"! At the same time or later, P800 showed up in the upper right corner Bluetooth menu. But the pop-ups at the phone numbers in Address book were always grey when it came to "SMS message" and "Dial". :-(

At no time has the mac been able to search and find my P800. The initiative always has come from the P800.

Apple needs to put out an update badly. They must have had prototypes of the P800 for six months now and it has even on the market for a short while. Move ahead, Apple!

Thanks for the url to the other discussion. He was able to pair the units, but got other problems later on (as I did too). Sigh...

Well, good luck. Another source for help could be Howard Forums' P800 section at http://www.howardforums.com/forumdis...s=&forumid=163
A lot of knowledgable users, but this simply could be an issue of OS X needing an update to recognize the phone, or vice versa. I certainly hope not.
