I just got an iPod for Christmas, 10GB, and it was working great... until today.

I go to turn it on, and it won't turn on! Then I think that I must have left it on the night before (which I doubt), so I plug it into my mac... and it doesn't turn on! The System Profiler doesn't even recognize that an iPod has been connected, iTunes doesn't open, and the Finder doesn't mount it. Then I try pluggin it into an outlet, and still nothing.

So, is my iPod dead? I'm going to go to the Apple Store near me soon to see if they knew, but I though I would ask here first if anyone knew what was going on.

Try resetting it. Plug it into a power outlet or your FireWire port. Hold down the menu and play buttons simultaneously. After a few seconds you should get an Apple logo, and the iPod's contents will be safe.

If this doesn't work, then yeah it's time to take it in.

Had this problem too. The solution given above helped mine come alive. It is pretty bad it CAN happen, but ... we are all human, also the folks at Apple.
