Is it possible to buy a larger HD for my 5GB iPod? I looked into this a while back and they were mighty expensive. Suppose I could always haunt eBay in search of a *broken* iPod. Thoughts / ideas? Thx.

people were all over this when the 5 gig came out bc toshiba had a 10 gig and the 20 gig, but the prices were the same as th ipod for the drive alone, so i don't think anyone did it. the hard part is formating the HD and getting the software on it, although some of ot might be on the 32mb of ram dunno. i'd just say if you got the cash get the 20 gig and you'll get the apple care too.

From what I hear, NO. I don't remember the details, but I think the pinouts may have been modified by Apple in some sort of proprietary way. It's quite expensive to try it out, especially since someone who apparently knew said "no."

Well I asked someone from the Apple Store. They said that you could get the drive but that you couldn't format it to the ipod since they have propietary software to do so. So I would say the answer would be no.
