i am interested in getting a new Airport Extreme (802.11g) base station, but I have one question about it. Can it be configured by a PC? I have a method of internet, DirecWay (yes it sux...but no other options where i live), which is PC only.
I want to use the AE to provide a wireless connection to my new sweet PB17 when it arrives.
in the past Apple did release PC config tools I believe. Does anyone know if this can be done now?
if there is are there any known limitations.
since i have a lexmark USB printer it would be nice to be able to print to is from my PB17 too.

I have the same question. On my PC, I have Verizon DSL. I want to hook up an AirPort Extreme to it wired and then share the internet with a PowerBook. I don't know if there is software to do this though.

Do you have a router now? If so, how is it all set up?

Actually, this is a different question, but the answer is yes. This is what Airport is for. It doesn't matter that one client is a PC and one a Mac. But why Airport Extreme?

You both might want to take a look over at the Networking forum.

Thanks. Would there be software to allow me to configure the AirPort Extreme base station on the PC? If not, could I configure it from the PowerBook even though it is not directly connected to it.

Why not AirPort Extreme? In past experience, I have found that it is usually better to buy to related things from the same company. That way, everything is integrated better. Now, I'm not saying that other 802.11g routers are not as good. Plus, the AirPort Extreme Base Station will match my PowerBook...

I thought maybe there used to be some PC software.

But... if you're going to use a Mac and a PC both, then sure you can configure it from the Mac. You don't need to be directly connected, you can just use airport to configure airport. There's the "airport admin" control panel in Applications/utilities.

I don't know whether there's a PC configurer for AE... I'm using a regular 'ol Airport which I use from a PowerBook and from a PC using an Orinoco Silver card.

You can just config it from the powerbook. But you should could a different basestation, a cheaper one. You can 802.11b basestations for $70 and up. But it want 802.11g, go with airport extreme...
