What setting gives you line level for speakers?

I've got a PowerMac (like most of you discussing speakers). My question is: what is the proper line level out setting on the volume. I think ideally I'd have a line out that's the same as line out on a CD-player or other component.

So, say you're using the Klipsch 2.1s, what setting do you have your volume at?

Never max it out and use low volumes on the speaker set.
