my dad has a set of Bang & Olufsen earbuds that sound incredible. I think they run about $150, too. Search for their site on google... don't remember it off hand

In my experience, BOSE tends to quite overpriced for what you get. I've listened to many of their 'home theater' speakers, and some of their headphones, and it's been disappointing.
For headphones, my current favourite is the Koss Porta Pro headphones, which aren't too expensive (about USD$50), and sound great. Koss isn't a company known for great products, UNTIL you try their headphones. Trust me, I'm a convert. They have some great reviews posted here:

Whatever you decide, try to listen to the headphones before you buy. And bring along a few CDs of your own, or even your iPod.
Good luck!

ryanbrown,
I love the Apple earbuds, but mine are on the verge of falling apart. Would you be interested in selling me yours?

This has been covered in massive depth on the following sites
http://headphones.com
http//headwize.com
There are forums and revies on both sites. Do a search for ipod and you'll get hundreds of hits.
A popular item at the moment are the sony in ear units.

I just bought a black pair for my wife's minidisk and thought they were very good, so ordered a white pair for my ipod.
the bass is a bit overblown for my liking, but there are a couple of mods you can make (details on the two sites above, do a search on 'silver mod') so I hope to be able to alter thhat a bit.
A lot will depend on where you want to listen, what you listen to and how much you want to spend.
If you're not on the move much, consider a pair of Grado SR60's or SR80's. Probably the best sound for the money below $100, but not the most portable, and don't seal the surroundings out. If you're on the move a lot and have plenty of money, etymotic ER4S is what you want young man, only $300, plus another hundred if you get custom moulded earplugs, but they sound stunning.
Have a browse round the two sites and yyou'll find plenty to keep you interested.
Cheers,
J.
who's spent the afternoon listening to his favourite music on a $25000 stereo that he'll never be able to afford. But my god it was awesome. And they're just the baby speakers, the good set cost $55000. I can't imagine what they sound like, but I hope to audition them later in the year.

Grado ( www.gradolabs.com) makes excellent headphones. I have a pair of SR-80's and I'm very happy with them. To get more info on headphones in general, and Grados in particular, point your browser at www.goodcans.com.
