Is it possible to down load your digital snaps to one's iPOD? May be there is a device you could use. I don;t know of any. I figure it could be a good idea if you are on a long vacation and you wish to take a large number of pictures but run out or room on you camera and have run out of CF cards.
Potentially you would be able to storge huge amounts of pictures on your iPod.

That's a good idea--but I think it would require some software written for the iPod to serve as a download manager to interface with the camera. And I think Apple seems a bit restrictive in what they're allowing people to develop for the iPod (remember the remote control software/add-on that some company developed that Apple asked them to stop developing?) so I don't know how likely something will be deloped for that purpose.
But I'd sure buy it if it were available...

Seems like there might be a starter market here. I spoke with my brother and his friends and they all agreed that using an iPOD for this purpose could be a popular one.

I don't see it as an option for camcorders because of the space dv takes, an 10Gb ipod would be filled up after 50 minutes of recording.. but i would rather use it as a storage solution for digital cameras. But how would it be possible to attach a usb-cable to the ipod?

USB, no.. but 3rd part Firewire readers for CF/etc exist too. Yes that would be an extra $40 (if you already had a USB one), but would/should allow Apple to do this without needing to modify the iPod hardware (ie. it should be fairly easy to do).
I have NOT bought an iPod specifically because it will not do this (come on Apple). I need a "digital vault" for an upcoming 3-week international trip (vs. buying expensive spare CF cards).
I really have to imagine that with no HW change needed, a "hack" version of this should not require more than 1 man-month of development (or less). Would love to have the iPod be my digital vault.. c'mon Apple..
Right now, the only option (that I know of) is the Archos Multimedia Jukebox. Slightly bigger than an iPod, and rumored to not be a slick to use, but hey, if its the only one that meets my feature needs...it will be the one I buy.

I have a Lexar FireWire CF card reader, and I would love to offload pix to my iPod. I wonder if the iPod would provide enough power for the reader?

In my experience with flash (as a HW engineer), erasing is much more "expensive" to your power budget than is reading, but I don't either should really tax the iPod battery much.

Yes, but why buy 2 devices, carry 2 chargers, spend $$ for 2 quantities of portable storage, etc etc, when I can buy one instead?
Apple is the one that advertised the iPod as "portable storage"... fine, let me use it that way.
At a minimum, if they had a more Pc-compatible interface, at least I could walk in to an internet cafe (while travelling)... donwload CF card to a PC (lets face it, you don't find internet cafes full of Macs), and then xfer from the PC to the iPod.
So no, I'll buy a device from a company that (in my mind) has the better "vision", even if its not overall as "slick" as the iPod for mp3 playing...
unless of course Apple gets off its duff and decides to innovate in the few weeks (I leave in early March, and will purchase by early Feb).
