I have been shopping around for a laser printer for school and both of these seem to have mostly favorable reviews. Has anyone had a good experience with either one under Jaguar? How about overall value and quality?

I use the HL-1440 under jaguar and dont really have any problems with it. Occasionall the printer que will mess with itself and I have to go into print center and restart it, but thats not really a big deal. One thing is this baby is quite temperature sensitive. I keep it next to my window, and if its freezing out, the printer will print as if theres really low toner, and you have to take out the cartridge and warm the bitch up.

Hey Langdon,

I have the ML-1210 which is the cheapest model laser printer ($199) and I simply love it. I like the "Save Toner Management" as I print a lot everyday.

Samsung is very good at updating its drivers for Mac OS. One of the first to make drivers for OS X. It works great under Jaguar of course.

The toner price is cheaper too so you will save even more money over the long run.

I don't think it's temperature sensitive. Also, it's EnergyStar compliant (or something like that) so you can have it on all day so warm up time is minimal.

I hope this helps.

Cheers.
Have a nice day!

BY chance can you link to the drivers? I have read that OS X support for the ML-1430 is not the best for Jag. People had no problems with 10.1.5 but after the changes with X.2 the drivers ceased working.
Also I know that your model was the predecessor to the 1430 so do you know for certain that they use the same driver?

Thanks for your input.

You can get the 1440 for $150-200 if you do your homework. Check the hot deal forums of www.fatwallet.com and do a search.

Here's the link: Samsung OS X Drivers.

You can get Linux drivers from there too. http://www.samsungelectronics.com/printer/index.html

This driver came out on November 27, 2002 so it's less than two months old. This is good in the world of printer drivers.

I think the best way to decide is to go to a shop like your local Mac dealer and test them both out for yourself.

Cheers.
Have a nice day!
