According to the Epson web site the answer is "No", however, I wonder if anybody knows if the EPSON Stylus CX3200 all-in-one or the EPSON Stylus CX5200 all-in-one is compatible with Mac OS X. I ask just in case their web site has not been updated.

Oh yes, they are totally supported. I bought the cx5200 the past monday and it has drivers. Search for it on versiontracker.com and it will show up.
Image capture also works seemlessly with it, and pretty much everything is perfect in its operation with OSX, except if you press the scan button on the unit itself, nothing happens... but thats not a big issue.
They are great machines, the cx5200 is a nice deal.

SwarmyCurve, you have the EPSON Stylus CX5200? Great, the CX5200 is the printer that I was thinking of purchasing out of the two. I have the use of one hand. Therefore, I would like to know if you find the CX5200 easy to operate. Also, where do you feed the envelopes? Is the way of feeding envelopes to the printer an easy process or is it cumbersome? What did you mean by "except if you press the scan button on the unit itself, nothing happens..."? Do you mean the driver needs tweaking yet, or do you mean that scanning does not work at all?

Epson has the scanner drivers on their website. Did you use those or are your just using image capture for scanning?

I have the CX5200 and it kicks ass. Both scanning and printing quality are excellent, and the copier has proven more useful than expected.
The included CD has a bunch of Mac drivers and software and works pretty well. Setup was a breeze.
For someone who only has the use of one hand, it shouldn't be too difficult. The unit itself is larg(ish) so setup might be a problem, but apart from that it's fine. Envelopes do not get a special tray, they just load in back where the paper goes.
I have a question though -- how do you use Image Capture to scan? I've been using PhotoShop. Image Capture doesn't see my Epson, but Photoshop loves it.

Hi! I posted this in VersionTracker:
"I'm thinking of buy one cx3200 or cx5200, and all the opinions are very good. But I have a question: do somebody know if the drivers support (and support well) Jaguar? The product requeriments doesn't say nothing.".
Does anybody know about the Jaguar support?
Thanks!!!

I'm glad someone started this forum. I mentioned the two printers a while ago, but now I'm really ready to purchase the CX5200 since they can finally be purchased.
I think the 5200 is a better choice since it has a 1200x2400 48 bit scanner, instead of a 600x1200. Although it's $199, I think there will be some online coupons soon that cut $50 off of $200, etc. Plus, some stores offer $25 or $30 in-store gift cards with a purchase.
Unfortunately, I haven't found the 5200 online yet, although the 3200 is available online and the 5200 can be found in stores.
Apparently, they both work with Jaguar fine even though the website doesn't state it.
I too have questions about the scanner. I would love to use the scanner button on the printer, but you say it doesn't work properly? Hopefully this is just a driver problem. Also, will I need to buy Photoshop to get any scanning functions at all?

Yes, Jaguar support is great. Epson was one of the first companies to support OS X in the first place.

Time to catch up -
When I said the scanner button doesn't work, I mean that the program isn't instantly launched. You need to open it up yourself and then it works just fine.
Image Capture has always just automatically worked for my Epson scanners (the cx5200 and Perfection 1650). You can also download Epson's Scan to File program which does the same things more or less.
Everything about the machine is easy to do. There are a ton of functions on the panel display in regards to copies. It all makes sense and is easy to operate. I agree that the copy function has proved to be very useful. For example, I needed to bring in a pic from a magazine to school, so I just lay the mag down on the flatbed, hit one big green button, and it prints it with only a tiny white border on the page in a matter of seconds.
I can't imagine why someone would want to buy a standalone printer these days if you do not need professional quality output.
I would advise you skip over the cx3200 because it lacks a lot of features, especially the inks. In the 3200 there are only 2 cartridges and the inks are the everyday kind that will fade and are not water proof - unlike the 5200's DuraBrite inks.
Any more Q's?

Is the CX5200 pretty easy to get into and maintain in case of ink problems and paper jams?
How does the printer clean its print heads?
Did you say that it has individual color tanks?
Is it quiet?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm itching to purchase this item. I can't wait to replace my aging Epson 740C and an Acer scanner (which I sold a few months ago). Pathetically, I've been using my 2.0 MP digicam to "scan" receipts and other docs in the meantime.
I found the CX5200 at Buy.com for $167 + $10 shipping ($187 originally, no tax, $20 online coupon). Unfortunately, it's not in stock. CompUSA, Office Depot, and Best Buy also have the printer online with varying discounts.

I do not really know about dealing with paper jams since it has worked fine for me so far. (this is a good thing!)
It is very quiet, except for loading paper, which is rather loud. My old, old Lexmark Z53, was also very load with loading paper. Never buy a lexmark, BTW.
It uses C M Y K (4) ink tanks.
I once upon a time had an epson 740 - this new model is about . . . a million times better. Coming from that, you will be amazed.

G-mac and all you, thanks for your answers.
I'm an Epson Stylus Scan 2500 user, a happy user before Mac OS X, but the support from Epson is inexistent (I have used some hacks for printing, and VueScan for scanning).
I thank I wouldn't buy again an Epson all-in-one (for the lack of Mac OS X support), but after reading many revisions and opinions about the new multifunction, I'm hoping to sell quickly my old SS2500 and buy a CX5200...
(Outpost and SmallDog have the CX5200, and not the CX3200. Infortunately, Epson Colombia doesn't offer it yet here ).

Paper jams -- because it is a rear-loading printer, paper jams are simple to clear. You have to restart the printer once you clear the jam. I've never had an Epson printer jam on me except once when it was my fault.
Cleaning -- it basically just electrocutes the hell out of the peizoelectric print head, which causes ink to be ejected at high pressure. HP printers try to "wipe" the print head, but the mechanism gets gummed up after a while. All printers waste ink when cleaning.
Yes, it has 4 individual ink tanks, and the printer display tells you exactly which is low or needs replacing.
Quiet -- well... Epson printers have never been known for quietness. It's a lot quieter than the 740 for sure. To help it be so fast (22 ppm black) it loads the paper very rapidly, with a big ka-KLUNK! But then it's quiet. On photo paper, it's more delicate with the paper.

Great info everyone!
I just wanted to pass along news that a new rebate came out for the CX5200!
If you purchase any PC or Mac and the CX5200 between Jan. and March 31st, you qualify for a $30 rebate. The purchases may be on separate receipts.
Check out Epson's website in their rebate section or MacWarehouse.com's CX5200 site for a downloadable PDF rebate form.
The $30 plus a $25 online coupon at Office Depot puts it at less than $150!
Hope this helps someone wanting this printer at a good deal.

Maxintosh, can you tell me more about printing envelopes? Someone saw the Epson Stylus CX5200 and thought that the printer did not do envelopes. I want to make sure that it does, and also how easy the envelope printing is. Do the envelopes go through easy or is there a lot of jamming?

I am seriously considering buying the cx5200.
Are you all still happy with it? How do you find the printer/copier/scanner quality?
I'm surprised it only has 4 ink tanks. I was hoping it was also a photo printer.
Not to worry, I don't have a digital camera yet. I guess I can buy the 2200 in a year or so.

My Stylus Photo EX finally bit the dust today, so we're going to be printer shopping tomorrow. Our scanner and fax software don't work with Mac OS X (and probably never will), so we're looking into the CX5200.
Is everybody still pleased with it?
How is photo printing?
Thanx!

Just FYI - printing to the Stylus Scan works pretty well through the OS's built in CUPS support... hold down Option when clicking "Add Printer" in Print Center, and then choose the "Advanced" option from the menu. Or maybe that's what you've already done...
And even though Epson doesn't advertise it, the latest version of the Epson Twain 5 available on their site, the one that says it's for the Perfection scanners, runs the Stylus Scan 2500 flawlessly. There's no need for VueScan. (Unless, of course, you like using VueScan...)

Thank you, iBookUser2!
I have worked 18 months with the Print Center "trick", and I'm relatively happy with VueScan, but THANKS for the Twain info, I will try to test it and go for the best... ;-)
