I recently picked up two inexpensive external USB hard drive cases and then grabbed two IBM Travelstar (DLGA-23080) 2.5" hard drives off of eBay but I can't seem to get this combination to work. According to the web site, the cases are rated to accept ATAPI-4 Compatible 2.5" drives which I believe is the same as EIDE. And I (foolishly) assumed that all recent 2.5" IDE notebook hard drives were EIDE so I fully expected this combo to work. However it's pretty clear that the case and the drives use different interfaces.

My guess is that the drives are ATA-1 and the case is rated for ATA-4, does this sound correct? If so, can anyone recommend a cheap external USB drive case that will work with these drives? Or can anyone recommend cheap drives that will work with my cases. Either will do.

The link for the cases I purchased is here.

The link to the auction for the drives I purchased is here.
