Has the iPod remote always been polished metal? I bought my first one a few weeks ago and was really surprised it looks like the back of the iPod. I thought it was made from the white plastic material on the front of the iPod.

After losing the $39 ear buds in just a week, I went to the Apple Store to replace them. When I asked if the polished metal was a new design, they looked at me as if I were from Vulcan.

And yes, see this thread's title. I know this is a stupid question.

New baby? Did you have to send the original one to repair?
