iTunes not detecting iPod?

My 10Gb iPod is mounted, but iTunes is not recognised, what do you people recomend? reinstall iTunes? or re format my iPod? or somthing else ...?
we don't have time to stop for gas

I got it working by resetting the Firewire port.

This happens to me all the time, what do you mean "resetting the FireWire port"?

switch Mac offf, remove all power cables, leads and batteries and leave for 20 minues.

Seemed like a lot of trouble, so I just used Disk Utility and erased the iPod, then used iPod Software Updater 1.2.1 and restored the iPod and then restarted the machine and it worked fine

Version 4.0 - Now Powered By iWeb
